OUR BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Food for Thought is governed by the Food for Thought Educational Trust, a NZ-registered charity established in 2006. The Trust comprises a Board of Trustees who volunteer their time to govern Food for Thought, bringing valuable expertise across health, education, business, food industry and environmental social governance.


Sandy Botterill (Chair)

Sandy is chair of the Food for Thought Board and is also the Head of Environmental Social Governance (ESG) at Foodstuffs. Sandy has a passion for empowering people to make positive change - whether that’s in understanding the nutritional value of food and its relationship to how people feel and their overall wellness, to understanding their impact on the environment through the choices they make. Sandy is committed to helping bring ESG to life in business. Sandy started her career as an environmental lawyer, has a Masters in Environmental Law, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business and is Member of the Institute of Directors.

 


Ewan Atherton

Retired General Practitioner and retired Owner Operator of New World Matamata and PAK’nSAVE Gisborne, Ewan has been a Trustee of Food for Thought for 15 years and is passionate about helping kids make healthy food choices.


Cheryl Doig

Principal at Think Beyond, with a focus on futures and foresight practices. Cheryl is a community leader, past school principal and holds a number of governance roles. She is a founding Trustee of Food for Thought and serves as an independent Trustee.


Justine Munro

Justine is the Head of Prevention at the Heart Foundation. She has over 20 years’ experience in nutrition and public health, with a focus on supporting children and communities to develop essential food skills and knowledge to help them live long, healthy lives. 


Melanie Tarrant

Melanie has been a part of the Foodstuffs South Island Co-Operative since 2015. She has served as the Owner Operator of New World Hokitika, New World Bishopdale, and currently, New World Ilam. With a background in education, Melanie has also taken on various governance roles at both local and national levels.


David Gordon

David is the Head of New World at Foodstuffs North Island. David has been with Foodstuffs for more than eight years, and prior to his current role he led the 4 Square brand through a significant transformation, bringing the proposition into the 21st century and being more relevant to more New Zealanders. He is passionate about the role Foodstuffs locally owned and operated stores play in the communities they serve, including to help tamariki make informed, healthy eating decisions.

Nutrition Advisors from the Heart Foundation also support the delivery of Food for Thought in schools across Aotearoa.
